Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Advisory Council
The HSI Advisory Council, co-chaired by Dean Laura Alamillo and Professor Robert Train, comprises representatives from across the campus, the local community, and Sonoma State alumni, formed in response to the HSI Task Force Recommendation Report completed in December 2020. The Council’s primary objective is to develop an HSI success framework rooted in the concept of servingness, introduced by Gina et al., 2019). This concept emphasizes a shift from merely enrolling Latinx students to actively serving and supporting their success through both external factors, such as policies and governing boards, and internal elements, including mission alignment, HSI grants, curricula, engagement strategies, and diversity initiatives. The Council’s work aligns with Sonoma State’s core values as outlined in the Strategic Plan and Graduation Initiative 2025.
